Contemporary Japanese (Grammar)
I specialize in the grammar of contemporary Japanese, and I conduct descriptive research on grammar from the perspective of Japanese education. I have been interested in complex sentences, particularly in conditional clauses, cause/reason clauses, and manner clauses. I am now researching the relationship between complex sentences and basic grammatical categories, such as voice, tense, and aspect. In the graduate course, students work to prepare for their own research through the reading of the latest papers, research presentations, and question and answer sessions.
