Modern Japanese Literature

Research field

My area of study is modern Japanese literature in the period between the 1910s and the 1960s. Considering literature in the social, cultural, and historical contexts of the time, I try to uncover new facts and perspectives to reshape literary history. I focus on the “economics” of literature by analyzing trends in the publishing business, lifestyles of authors around the 1960s, which was the golden era of literature, and the relationship between the formation of “I” novels and literary criticism and academism.
