My research interests are based on the transaction cost perspective: how different types of contracts/organizations/legal institutions relate to the efficiency and corporate strategy in real economic transactions. Focus is placed on patent prosecution strategy, intellectual property portfolio management, inter-firm knowledge flows, technology contracts and business organizations in international contexts.

Where new technologies are developed atop previous technologies, the management of relationships with other organizations is essential. Alliances are thus prevalent. In addition, issues that were previously handled by intellectual property professionals (in a narrow sense), such as patent infringement litigations or patent prosecution processes, are now parts of management strategy. External relationships without contracts or litigations are also important, since knowledge is propagated though human networks in general. Innovation process itself is an interesting field of research. The sciences on innovation processes are developing and innovating themselves as well.
