Academic Programs

The Faculty of Intercultural Studies offers a four-year baccalaureate degree and, in graduate studies, a two-year master's degree (Master's in Intercultural Studies). The authority of the Faculty and its graduate school to grant bachelor's and master's degrees is recognized by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

Three distinctive Departments make up the Faculty of Intercultural Studies: the Department of Japanese Studies, the Department of Intercultural Communication, and the Department of English Communication. The Department of Japanese Studies and the Department of Intercultural Communication conduct special entry examinations for returning Japanese citizens and foreign students, while the Department of English Communication does not.

The curriculum consists of two types of courses: specialized courses, which are offered only to students of a particular department, and general education courses, which are open to students in all departments. During their four-year career at the Faculty, students cultivate communication skills in both Japanese and English, study and explore a variety of cultures, and have opportunities to acquire practical experience of Japanese traditional culture.
