Academic Programs Department of Intercultural Communication

Learning about and communicating with a wide variety of cultures
In an increasingly confusing world, understanding other cultures is a vital part of achieving a better global society. Toward that end, students in the Department of Intercultural Communication explore the cultures of countries and regions around the world through both time and space.
Understanding the world and Japan from a multitude of perspectives
To understand the relationships between Japan and the world, students examine a wide range of aspects, spanning history, religion, politics, economics, business management, law, development, the environment, media and more. Students probe questions of how we can and should find ways for widely differing countries to live together in peace.
Discovering through wide-ranging study the topics you really want to investigate
After studying a wide range of fields in their first and second years, students in their third year embark on specialized study sessions called seminars. Drawing on topics of particular interest to them, students discover themes they will study in-depth. Building on a broad base of studies enables students to interpret these topics of individual interest from a diverse range of perspectives.
