The objective of the Graduate School of Economics (Master’s Program and Doctoral Program) is to produce promising researchers and highly specialized professionals who possess a high level of expertise in economics.

Diploma Policy

The Graduate School of Economics (Master’s Program) awards the master’s degree to students who have fulfilled the required course term and acquired the stipulated number of credits, including their master’s thesis or the outcomes of their research on a specified topic, in recognition that those students have acquired the abilities that will enable them to succeed in society as promising researchers or as highly specialized professionals who possess a high level of expertise in economics.

Curriculum Policy

The Graduate School of Economics (Master’s Program) delivers a curriculum that will enable students to complete their master’s thesis or finalize the outcomes of their research on a specified topic through group exercises and tutorials. It also holds meetings for students to deliver interim reports on their master’s thesis or research on their specified topic. Furthermore, the Graduate School of Economics has concluded mutual exchange agreements with the graduate schools of other universities, providing mechanisms that will enable students to take classes and acquire credits at each other’s universities.

Admissions Policy

The Graduate School of Economics (Master’s Program) admits students who have acquired the basic academic skills and research methods concerning economics in a bachelor’s program and persons with experience in society who wish to use that experience to study economics. Admitted students shall have the desire to acquire specialized research skills that go beyond the undergraduate level.


Doctoral Program

The objective of the Graduate School of Economics (Master’s Program and Doctoral Program) is to produce promising researchers and highly specialized professionals who possess a high level of expertise in economics.

Diploma Policy

The Graduate School of Economics (Doctoral Program) awards a doctoral degree to students who have fulfilled the required course term and acquired the stipulated number of credits, received thesis guidance from their supervisor and submitted their doctoral thesis, and passed the review of their thesis and their examinations, in recognition that those students have acquired the abilities to pursue specialized research activities in the field of economics independently and the high degree of academic knowledge appropriate to a highly specialized professional. The standard term for the doctoral program is three years, but students who have achieved particularly outstanding research results may obtain their degree in two years.

Curriculum Policy

The Graduate School of Economics (Doctoral Program) delivers a curriculum that will provide guidance for students to expand on the research outcomes of the master’s program and produce an even more highly specialized doctoral thesis. It also holds meetings for students to deliver reports on their doctoral thesis, once each in the second and third years of the program. Furthermore, the Graduate School of Economics has concluded mutual exchange agreements with the graduate schools of other universities, providing mechanisms that will enable students to take classes and acquire credits at each other’s universities.

The Graduate School of Economics (Doctoral Program) admits students who have acquired specialized knowledge and research skills concerning economics in a master’s program and who have the desire to acquire an even deeper specialization and higher degree of research skills as researchers in that field.

Teaching Licences Obtainable

Students who obtain the credits required to obtain a licence, including in "subjects related to teacher training," may obtain the following teaching licences.
・Social studies (junior high school teacher)
・Civics (senior high school teacher)
