International students enjoy and learn about Kabuki performing art

On June 18, 2022, the International Centre provided international students with an opportunity to enjoy and learn about Kabuki, a traditional drama, at the National Theater. This was one of many opportunities for international students to discover traditional Japanese performing arts and culture, financially supported by Kasumi Kaikan, a general incorporated association.

Kabuki is very popular among international students. Thanks to a prior briefing on Kabuki and the audio guidance during the performance, the participants, including international students from Gakushuin Boys' Senior High School, were able to enjoy the heart-warming story of one of Kabuki masterpieces even if it was first time they attended this performing art. Actors' expressions and movements unique to Kabuki were appealing while the costumes were very impressive.
