Announcement regarding classes and other student activities after May 26

Announcement regarding classes and other student activities in response of lifting of the Declaration of a State of Emergency by the Japanese government followed by the partial relaxation of voluntary business closures requests by the Tokyo metropolitan government

To Gakushuin students

In response to lifting of the Declaration of a State of Emergency by the Japanese government on May 25 and the Tokyo metropolitan government's May 26 partial relaxation of voluntary business closures to prevent the further spread of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Gakushuin University has set up policies regarding classes, students' access to the campus, and other student activities for the first semester. We will let you know any changes in the policies we may make in the coming weeks/months.
 * As a rule, we will continue to ban students' access to the campus until May 31.

Classes and end-of-semester examinations in the first semester
① In principle, classes will be offered online, not face-to-face, during the first semester.
② From June 1, however, some classes and guidances may be provided face-to-face as long as  appropriate infection-control measures are taken. Such classes and guidances include those which are directly related to your graduation works and require on-campus facilities to be completed. Your instructor will contact you via G-Port or any other channels if he/she offers his/her class face-to-face.
③ The university will not hold end-of semester examinations in person. Your instructor will contact you via G-Port or any other channels if he/she is going to change the examination and/or evaluation methods.
④ In early July, we will make another announcement regarding our plan of makeup classes in August and intensive lectures in September.
Students' access to the campus
✔ In principle, only students who attend the classes and receive the guidances set out in ② above are permitted to enter the university premises.
✔ Other students are requested to continue voluntarily to stay away from the campus.
Classes in the second semester
✔ The university will decide by the end of August whether it is possible to shift fully to face-to-face classes from the beginning of the second semester. Then, we will make an announcement regarding the class format for the second semester.
Extra-curricular activities
✔ The university will keep following the current policies about students' extra-curricular activities until in-person classes are fully resumed.

①  External sports events such as games and matches organized by individual clubs and circles, including voluntary groups, need to be cancelled.
②  Internal events with an overnight stay, such as training camps and tours, need to be cancelled.
③  Meetings with drinking and eating need to be cancelled.
④  Regular extra-curricular activities without an overnight stay need to be cancelled.
