As the third of a series of Japanese culture events for international students, the International Centre organized an Edo-style wind bell painting workshop and a visit to the Sensoji temple on November 13. This event was held in lieu of the regular one-day bus trip that usually happens in October but was canceled this year to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
An Edo-style wind bell is decorated with colorful pictures drawn inside of the main body made of transparent glass. After the craftsman's briefing about the history of glass making and the meanings of the traditional Edo-style designs, the participating international students and Japanese volunteer students learned how to paint on a glass bell and tried it.
After the wind bell workshop, the participants walked along the Sumida River to Sensoji, the oldest temple in Tokyo. This was a good opportunity for international and Japanese students to exchange their views through experiencing Japanese culture.
