Fundamental reform of the Japanese economy is a necessity of our times
ABOUTWelcome to GEM
The Gakushuin University Research Institute for Economics and Management (GEM) is an affiliated institute of the Faculty of Economics at Gakushuin University.
Research activities at GEM are primarily conducted by full-time staff at the Faculty of Economics, however, they also frequently involve collaborations with external researchers. GEM promotes academic exchange with domestic and international researchers and institutes, and serves as a point of intersection between government and the business community. It also welcomes local and overseas researchers as visiting fellows. GEM regularly publishes its research findings and organises seminars and international conferences, with a focus on sharing its expertise with wider society.
As we enter a new century, the Japanese economy is under pressure to undergo fundamental transformation in the areas ranging from economic management to corporate management. To meet these societal demands, GEM is building on its existing activities by striving to further its inter-disciplinary collaborations, to globalize them, and to put them into practical use, thereby becoming a more open research centre.
