On October 11, 2024, Mr. Nick Milner, Deputy Head of Global Opportunities (Short Courses), University of York, visited the International Centre. Mr. Myers met with Takako Hikotani, Professor of the International Centre, to have lively discussions about the short-term language program provided by the University of York every year as well as future student exchanges and possible new programs.

On October 10, 2024, Ms. Eunhwa SHIN, Head of the International Partnerships Office of International Affairs, University of Seoul, visited the International Centre. Ms. SHIN met with an exchange students enrolled in Gakushuin University from the University of Seoul, and then exchanged views on the language program at her university and future student exchanges with Associate Professor Yanamoto.

On July 2, 2024, a delegation from Universiti Sains Malaysia visited the International Centre. The delegation consisted of the following four members:

- Dr. Sivamurugan Pandian, Professor in Political Sociology, School of Social Sciences

They had a meeting with Professor Kubo, Director of the International Centre, and staff members of the Centre to discuss the details about future student exchanges. We entered into the Memorandum of Understanding and Student Exchange Agreement with Universiti Sains Malaysia in August, 2023, and plan to start student exchanges in AY 2025.

On June 28, 2024, a delegation from Binus University in Jakarta, Indonesia, visited the International Centre. The delegation consisted of the following four members:

The delegation met with Professor Kubo, Director of the International Centre, as well as Professor Hikotani, Associate Professor Yanamoto, and a staff member from the International Centre to discuss how to cooperate with each other in the future.
They also had meetings, respectively, with Professor Tetsuo Wada who was Dr. Tirta Nugraha Mursitama's academic advisor when he was studying the Graduate School of Management, Gakushuin University, and with Special Visiting Professor Masafumi Ishii of the Department of Law, the Faculty of Law, who was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Indonesia.

On June 21, 2024, Ms. Naho Maruta, Associate Professor of the Practice, Japanese, Wesleyan University, in Connecticut, the United States, visited the International Centre and met with Professor Hikotani, Associate Professor Yanamoto, and a staff member of the Centre to exchange opinions on future collaboration between the two institutions. Then Ms. Maruta had another meeting with a Gakushuin Student who will study in France from this fall and exchange students who are from Iceland and France, respectively, to study at Gakushin.

On May 30, 2024, Mr. Duncan Perrin, Manager, Group Programs, English Language Institute, Deakin University in Australia, visited the International Centre. Mr. Perrin met with Professor Hikotani and staff members of the International Centre to have discussions about the short-term program held at Deakin in spring and future student exchange opportunities.
University of Tennessee at Knoxville, United States
May 29, 2024
On May 29, 2024, a delegation of 14 students from University of Tennessee at Knoxville, led by Dr. Krista Wiegand, Professor and Director of the Center for National Security and Foreign Affairs at the Howard H. Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs, visited the International Centre and participated in a group session with Gakushuin students. At the workshop hosted by Professor Hikotani of the International Centre, the students actively discussed about various themes, including the G7 summit.
This visit is expected to help the two universities enhance their mutual understanding, resulting in more active exchanges in the future.
University of Nebraska at Kearney, United States
May 27, 2024
On May 27, 2024, Professor Satoshi Machida and 14 students from University of Nebraska at Kearney, one of Gakushuin's partner universities in the United States, visited the International Centre. After having a briefing about Gakushuin University, they enjoyed a campus tour and lunch with Gakushuin students.
Professor Machida had discussions with Professor Kubo, Professor Hikotani, Associate Professor Yanamoto, and an International Centre staff member over lunch and exchanged views on future collaboration.
Gakushuin University entered into a student exchange agreement with University of Nebraska in 2022 and is scheduled to send two students there for the first time. This visit is expected to help the two universities enhance their mutual understanding, resulting in more active exchanges in the future.
Dongguk University, Korea
April 17, 2024
On April 17, 2024, Mr. Park Sunhee, Director, and Mr. Jung Jae-Hoon, Manager, of the Office of International Relations, Dongguk University, in Korea visited the International Centre. After the meeting with Professor Kubo, Director of the International Centre, Associate Professor Yanamoto, and staff members, the two visitors had a conversation with exchange students studying at Gakushuin from Dongguk University and Japanese students who were studying at the university.
Then, Mr. Jung gave a presentation in Japanese on the details of their Summer Korean Language Program to be held in August for Gakushuin students who are interested in the program.
University of Virginia's College at Wise, United States

On February 14, 2024, Mr. Nate Myers, Special Advisor, International Programs, from the University of Virginia's College at Wise visited the International Centre. Mr. Myers met with Professor Hikotani and Associate Professor Yanamoto, both from the International Centre, to discuss student exchange and other opportunities in the future.
This visit was a great opportunity for both universities to deepen our mutual understanding.
University of East Anglia, United Kingdom
December 6, 2023
On December 6, 2023, Ms. Katrien Verbruggen, Study Abroad Manager, Partnerships, from the University of East Anglia (UEA) in the United Kingdom visited the International Centre. Ms. Verbruggen met with an exchange student from UEA currently studying at Gakushuin and a Japanese student who used to study at UEA as an exchange student. Then, the two students showed her around the campus.
After the campus tour, Ms. Verbruggen had a meeting with Professor Rtischev, Director of the International Centre, as well as Professor Hikotani and Associate Professor Yanamoto, both from the International Centre. They enjoyed an active exchange of views.
This visit was a great opportunity for both universities to deepen our mutual understanding.
University of Tennessee, Knoxville, United States
October 18, 2023
On October 18, 2023, Mr. Micah Rutenberg, Assistant Professor of the College of Architecture + Design, and 17 students studying architecture visited the International Centre from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. This university is one of Gakushuin's partner universities.
They participated in the "Field Studies Abroad III: North American Studies" course taught by Professor Hikotani of the International Centre and engaged in a lively discussion with Gakushuin students. Then, a curator of our Museum of History gave a lecture and showed them around the campus to help them deepen their understanding of Gakushuin's history and historical buildings on campus.
This was the third visit this year from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, to Gakushuin, following the one on October 12. We hope that these visits will contribute to deepening mutual understanding and promoting exchanges between the two universities in the future.

On October 12, Dr. Gretchen Neisler, Vice Provost for International Affairs and Director for Global Engagement, and Dr. Rachel Rui, Director of the Offices of Asia Engagement and of Communications in the Center for Global Engagement, visited the International Centre from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, which is one of Gakushuin's partner universities.
After meeting with Professor Hikotani of the International Centre, the visitors participated in her "Japan Studies IV: Art, Culture and Communication" class as guest speakers and had vigorous discussions with Gakushuin students and exchange students from overseas.
This visit was a good opportunity for both universities to deepen their mutual understanding and particularly for us to share what we learned with other universities overseas.
On October 18, another delegation from the University of Tennessee consisting of a faculty member and 17 students is scheduled to visit Gakushuin to interact with our students and look around the campus.
University of Hawaii at Manoa, United States
July 12, 2023
On July 12, 2023, Dr. Nori Tarui, a professor of economics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa visited Gakushuin University. He met with Professor and Director Rtischev and Professor Hikotani, both from the International Centre, as well as Professor Kubo of the Faculty of International Social Sciences to exchange views about future collaboration between the two universities. It was a good opportunity for both sides to deepen mutual understanding.

July 4, 2023
On July 4, 2023, Associate Professor Béatrice Jaluzot of the Institute of East Asia, Sciences Po Lyon, visited the International Centre. Located in Lyon, France, Sciences Po Lyon is one of Gakushuin's partner universities.
Dr. Jaluzot met with Professor and Director Rtischev, Professor Hikotani, Associate Professor Yanamoto and PD Researcher Okada, all from the International Centre, to exchange views on future cooperation between the two institutions. After the meeting, Dr. Jaluzot spent some time to have an informal talk with Gakushuin students who will start their exchange study at Sciences Po Lyon in September.

On July 3, 2023, Dr. Hideko Abe, Professor of East Asian Studies, Colby College, visited the International Centre from Maine, the United States. She met with Professor Hikotani and exchanged views about future cooperation between the two universities.
We hope that this visit will be the beginning of the development of international exchange and collaboration between Colby College and Gakushuin University.

June 7, 2023
On June 7, 2023, a delegation from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, one of our partner universities in the United States, visited Gakushuin University. Led by Dr. Krista Wiegand, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science, the delegation included some faculty and administrative staff and 11 students.
The International Centre organized a group session for the Tennessee students, joined by 13 Gakushuin students. After welcome remarks, the participating students attended a lecture on international politics given by Professor Hikotani of the International Centre. Then, in small groups, they had lively discussions on the issues raised in the lecture and made feedback presentations about their discussions. One participant stated that they had found some similarities and differences in Japanese and American ways of thinking and deepened their mutual understanding. As this comment shows, it was a valuable opportunity for the students from both universities.

On June 1, 2023, the International Centre welcomed Dr. Shingo Goto, Professor of Finance and Director of Ph.D. Programs and Research, the University of Rhode Island, which is located in the State of Rhode Island in the northeastern part of the United States. Professor Goto met with Professor and Director Rtischev, Professor Hikotani and Associate Professor Yanamoto, all from the International Centre, and Professor Sakaguchi of the Department of Political Studies, the Faculty of Law, to exchange information about the two universities' study abroad and exchange systems and views about their future collaboration.
After the meeting, Professor Goto observed the Japanese language and Japan Studies classes offered to international students. This visit was a good opportunity for the two universities to deepen mutual understanding.

May 9, 2023
On May 9, 2023, Dr. Nancy Hauck, Associate Provost of Community & Global Engagement, and Ms. Christine Loveless, Study Abroad Coordinator, from Utah Tech University visited Gakushuin University. They had a meeting with Professor Rtischev, Director of the International Centre, Professor Hikotani and Associate Professor Yanamoto to exchange their views about future collaboration between the two universities. After the meeting, the visitors had a casual conversation with three exchange students from their university currently studying at Gakushuin, who showed them around the campus later.
Gakushuin started student exchange with Utah Tech University in September 2022. A Gakushuin student is currently studying at Utah Tech and two will start their exchange programs there this coming fall. It is expected that this visit will lead to an enhanced relationship between the two universities.

April 25, 2023
On April 25, 2023, Mr. Lance Noe, Director of ESL Programs from Troy University, Alabama, USA, visited the International Centre. He exchanged views about short-term training programs and possible future cooperation with Professor Rtischev, Professor Hikotani and Associate Professor Yanamoto. Then, he met with a Gakushuin student scheduled to study at his university from this coming September.
Four Troy students who will start their exchange programs at Gakushuin in April 2024 are currently taking online the Japanese Language Preparatory Course (JLPC) offered by Gakushuin. They are looking forward to coming to Japan next spring!
Visotors from Dongguk University, Republic of Korea
April 21, 2023
On April 21, 2023, the International Centre received visitors from Dongguk University in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Associate Professor Yanamoto and some International Centre staff members met with Mr. PARK Sunhee, Director, and Mr. JUNG Jae-Hoon, Manager, both from the Office of International Relations. Then, the two visitors had a meeting with exchange students from their university who are currently studying at Gakushuin and Japanese students scheduled to be on the exchange program at Dongguk from this coming September. In an amicable atmosphere, they talked about campus life at Dongguk University.
On the same day, the International Centre held an information session for the Korean language program to be provided in August at Dongguk University. Mr. JUNG explained details about the program in Japanese to interested Gakushuin students.
It is expected that this visit will lead to further development of international exchange and strengthen cooperation between the two universities.
Visitors from Science Po Lyon, France
September 30, 2019
On September 30, Professor and Director Renaud Payre and Associate Professor Béatrice Jaluzot visited Gakushuin University from Science Po Lyon, France. They met with Professor and Dean Naoto Nonaka and Professor Takashi Oka from Gakushuin's Faculty of Law, as well as Professor Sumio Yamada, Director of the International Centre, and had productive discussions about exchange programs and future cooperation between the two universities. A Japanese student who studied as an exchange student for one year at Science Po Lyon helped showing the two visiting professors around the Gakushuin campus. It is expected that we will see enhanced academic and research exchanges between the two academic institutions.
Visitors from Tamkang University, Taiwan

On Wednesday, July 3, 2019, a seven-member delegation from Tamkang University, Taiwan, led by Dr. Huan-Chao Keh, who assumed the office of President in August 2018, visited Gakushuin University to meet with President Toshikazu Inoue and other representatives from Gakushuin.
Tamkang University and Gakushuin University have been actively engaging with each other through the student exchange program since the conclusion of the MOU in 2013. In 2015, ten students from Tamkang University came to Gakushuin to attend classes conducted in English. In addition, Gakushuin's International Centre has been organizing the short-term Chinese language program at Tamkang University every spring since 2016. Taking this opportunity, the two universities confirmed that they will strengthen their relationship in research as well to enhance collaboration in both student and research exchange.

Visitors from the University of Torino, Italy
May 8, 2019
On Wednesday, May 8, 2019, a delegation from the University of Torino, Italy, led by Professor and Rector Gianmaria Ajani paid a courtesy call on Gakushuin University.
This was the first visit from the University of Torino, although the two institutions have been actively engaging with each other through student exchanges and other activities since the conclusion of the MOU in 2015.
After the meeting, the delegation had a pleasant time with exchange students studying at Gakushuin from the University of Torino and Gakushuin students who are scheduled to start their study in Torino this fall. It is expected that this visit will lead to more active exchange between the two universities.
