Associate Professor Soyeon Kim (Faculty of International Social Sciences) visited Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia from March 18th to 20th, 2025, and presented the results of her research.
The business trip was conducted to visit Edith Cowan University (ECU) and to present research findings and facilitate discussions aimed at strengthening academic collaboration in both research and education. ECU, a public research university located in Perth, Australia is a partner university of Gakushuin University, with their students exchange program formally established in 2023. As the second largest university in the state, ECU has a student population exceeding 30,000 students and the only Australian university named after the first woman to be elected to an Australian parliament, Edith Cowan.

The Centre for Sustainability and Governance Research[1] at the School of Business and Law hosted a research seminar. As an international research partner, I was invited to present at the seminar and my research titled Breaking Barriers: Female Ambidextrous Leadership, Organizational Innovation, and Cultural Context was presented, where I shared insights on Japanese and Korean business environments and female leadership.
The seminar provided an excellent platform for meaningful conversations that broaden my understanding and develop the progression of the research. We also exchanged information and practical ideas for research and education collaborations, specifically addressing specific research approaches, current and potential research project, collaboration plans between two universities, as well as fundings sources.

The visit this time was very valuable in exploring possibilities for strong academic collaboration between two universities. Prof. Gabriel Eweje[2], Director of the Center for Sustainability and Governance Research, shared: "I gained an excellent impression of Gakushuin University's educational and research environment of Gakushin university. Gakushuin students, particularly, ISS students are very motivated and committed. ECU and our research center look forward to partnering with Gakushuin and supporting students as they expand their perspectives and global issues. We hope to deepen our cooperation in both research and education."

I was deeply impressed by their outstanding facilities and the warm hospitality of everyone I met. I hope to continue building meaningful collaborations with the teams in ECU. Updates on the progress and outcomes of the collaborations progress will be shared when they are available.
This research visit was supported by the International Academic Exchange Reboost Grant Program. I'm thankful to Gakushuin University for offering this opportunity and to the Research Support Center for their kind assistance."
